13.3″ Acer Aspire S7-393-7451 FHD Ultrabook via Amazon
Crystal white Acer Aspire S7-393-7451 is a 13.3-Inch Full HD touchscreen ultrabook with a fast and powerful Broadwell Intel i7 processor and premium elegant and sleek design. S7 is Acer’s main ultrabook model and has been so for the last few years (but nothing wrong with this- similar strategy to Apple), adding new features every year and the first things we notice here are the 5th generation processor and the faster 802.11ac wireless but it doesn’t look much different on the outside. It is good for multimedia and office tasks as well as very demanding apps and programs.
Acer Aspire S7-393 we’re reviewing on this page has the January 2015 release dual core Broadwell Intel i7-5500U processor with 2.4 to 3GHz speeds with turbo boost and hyper threading for two cores to handle four threads in parallel and to improve overall performance, 8 GB of DDR3L SDRAM for great multitasking power, 256 GB Solid State Drive in Raid 0 configuration + Acer’s Build Your Own Cloud- BYOC (Cloud lives on your own device and the storage capacity can be as large as you want) and Windows 8.1 operating system for the time being as that will be upgraded to Windows 10 later in 2015 and you’ll be able to download it free online. The i7-5500U is about 10-15% faster than the Haswell i5-4500U, has a Passmark benchmark score of 4218 on the day of this review and Thermal Design Power of 15 watts, contributing to longer battery life than before and the Raid 0 config of SSD simply means twice faster than regular SSD- instant waking up from sleep and booting up in less than ten seconds.
13.3 inch Full HD IPS touchscreen with 1920×1080 maximum pixel resolution and larger solid viewing angles offers very decent picture quality with sharp, bright and clear images and vivid colours and the Intel HD 5500 graphics card is good for a variety of multimedia tasks and will allow you to play most of the latest games fluently but at very low settings and resolutions. It has a durable dual-torque ‘lock-for-touch’ hinge that lets you open the lid with one hand while keeping the screen very stable for perfect touch display use and it can be opened 180 degrees for sharing purposes- there is even a hotkey that flips the screen over for the other person to view clearly and the preciseness and responsiveness are improved with the advanced image sensor technology. It has a great quality high definition webcam with high pixel density that is certified for Skype and the Acer Purified Voice function that eliminates background noise and enables super clear dialogues. Sound quality is OK- is not particularly loud with two stereo speakers underneath but can fill in a normal size room just fine and the Dolby Digital Plus software lets you adjust the sound.
Crystal white and silver Acer S7-393-7451 with premium construction and material, aluminium unibody design and super tough scratch resistant Gorilla Glass 2 cover with backlit Acer logo on the hood weighs 2.87 pounds and measures 12.7 x 8.8 x 0.51 inches- very lightweight and super slim and portable with up to 10 hours of battery life and up to 80 days of standby in Deep Sleep mode that the computer goes into after 75 minutes (or whatever you set it to) of being in regular Sleep mode with the Acer Hybrid Standby on a single charge from its 4 Cell 6280 mAh 47 Wh lithium ion battery and is ideal for use out and about. White backlit keyboard senses light in the room and adjusts the brightness automatically for typing comfortably in the dark and the keys are properly spaced out and comfy to type on and the large and smooth Synaptics touchpad is centred to the space bar and is precise and responsive. Connectivity options include up to 3 times faster and wider coverage 802.11ac WiFi plus Acer Instant Connect function, Bluetooth 4.0, Fast Ethernet, Intel WiDi- Wireless Display to connect to your large screen HDTV wirelessly, HDMI port to connect via a single HDMI cable for HD sound and video, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader and a special connector port called Acer Converter port (equivalent of a mini-DisplayPort).
Conclusion: 2015 model Acer Aspire S7-393-7451 is a beautiful- premium looking and powerful ultrabook as part of the S7 series, with some added features to the previous S7’s of Acer. Although the screen goes back to more than 180 degrees this is not a convertible machine and you can lift it with single hand up to 90 degrees and beyond that you’ll need two hands as it gets stiff. Palmrest area is large, so are touchpad and the keyboard and even though there is no 10-key numeric pad the keys are reasonably comfy to type on with the large and nicely spaced out keys. Aluminium design means aluminium frame, chassis, hinges and even aluminium interior with plastic bottom and back but don’t assume it is built like a brick so do be careful. It is very slim with half an inch thickness but not really compact as you can imagine with the larger bezels and it is lightweight but not super light at 2.9 pounds. It is very cool to touch at all times- even after several hours of operation thanks to the enhanced TwinAir cooling technology with warm air pushed out and cool air pulled in. Despite its small flaws (no product is perfect) you’ll get the beautiful display, fast performance, sleek aluminium unibody, a 5th generation Intel i7 processor, 8GB memory for multitasking power and fast and spacious Raid 0 configuration 256GB SSD, quiet and cool operation, responsive touchpad, very slim body, backlit keyboard and a good range of connectivity including faster 802.11ac wireless and Intel WiDi offered at a reasonable price for such a premium ultrabook.
